Museu da Casa Brasileira , May-July 2005
Curatorship by Lúcio Gomes Machado, coordination by Adélia Borges
Brought by Italian immigrants to Brazil in the early 20th Century, a time of a major housing boom, the hydraulic tile had widespread use in the country, therefore it became part of the affective memory of Brazilians. The exhibition comprised about 500 tiles in various designs, some by artists such as Flavio de Carvalho, and further metal casts, tools, photographs and dyes that show a little of the homemade process. The pieces belong to the collection of researcher Antonio Alves de Carvalho, who has accumulated more than two thousand tiles. Exhibition design by Haron Cohen.
