Museu da Casa Brasileira, São Paulo, June- July 2004
Curatorship by Isabel Gouveia, coordination by Adélia Borges
Common people of Salvador, the capital of Bahia state, create all kinds of utensils to make life easier or replace industrial products that are beyond their purchasing power. The exhibition combined some of these objects, such as coffee, ice cream and popcorn pushcarts, barbecue grills, stoves, kitchen utensils and fishing tools. Many of them contain valuable lessons of functionality and further masterfully express local culture. Several re-use discarded materials, showing the popular side of sustainability. The research of the pieces on the streets was made by a group of teenagers from NGO Cipó Comunicação Interativa/ Oi Kabum, who also photographed the objects in their contexts of use.
