Museu da Casa Brasileira , São Paulo, December 2004- March 2005
Curatorship by Ronaldo Barbosa, coordination and texts by Adélia Borges
On display at the exhibition were 36 types of whistles that reproduce the sound of the birds of the Atlantic Rainforest and have been produced since 1903 by Fábrica de Pios de Aves, in Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, Espírito Santo. The factory has an exquisite production, which keeps, more than a century later, the techniques learned from Indians of the region. Made of wood, the artifacts were used in hunting until banning of the practice in Brazil in the 1970s. Since then, they are used as musical instruments or to attract the birds to be watched or photographed. The exhibition design by Ronaldo Barbosa created an environment similar to the Espirito Santo region forests, scattering leaves on the ground and displaying large photographs on the walls.
